Honoring MLK Day with The Batch Yard

After the festive celebrations of December, let’s celebrate a holiday about giving back. The third Monday of January every year is Martin Luther King Jr Day. A United States federal holiday marking the birthday of MLK. This year, that date is January 15th, which is on MLK’s actual birthday.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. It is an annual opportunity to reflect on the ongoing struggle for civil rights, equality, and justice.

The holiday was first observed in 1986, after years of advocacy and activism by supporters of Dr. King’s legacy. MLK Day has since become a day to remember Dr. King’s leadership and dedication to achieving racial equality.

There is a variety of meaningful ways to celebrate that honor Dr. King’s legacy. Including attending commemorative events, engaging in community service, participating in educational activities, taking time to reflect on social justice, and spreading awareness. Find events and volunteer opportunities using The King Center website

The Batch Yard in Everett, MA is overjoyed to help amplify the messages of Dr. King and the importance of continuing his work for a more inclusive and just society.

Celebrate Veterans’ Day & Thanksgiving at The Batch Yard in Everett, MA

On Veterans’ Day, we honor those who served. Originating from World War I’s end, it commemorates the cessation of hostilities on November 11, 1918. Arlington National Cemetery’s amphitheater, home to the Tomb of the Unknowns, hosts the central ceremony. At 11 am, a united color guard pays respects, and a presidential wreath is laid. Similar commemorations occur nationwide, overseen by the President’s Veterans Day National Committee. Veterans Day, celebrated on November 11, preserves its historical importance, honoring those who serve and sacrifice.

Then on November 26th at The Batch Yard in Everett, MA, Thanksgiving is more than a feast; it’s a tribute to history and gratitude. In 1620, the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag tribe shared wisdom, emphasizing the bond with nature. President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national day of thanks in 1863. Today, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a visual extravaganza of balloons, floats, and performances. Whether on NBC or along the 2.5-mile route, it’s a treat of Broadway acts, live music, and vibrant creativity.

Thanksgiving is a national holiday of unity and reflection. The Batch Yard invites you to join our celebration, embracing history and creating cherished memories. Experience the spirit of thanks and the boundless possibilities this season brings. Happy Turkey Day!

Embracing Hope, Breast Cancer Awareness Month at The Batch Yard

For nearly four decades, the nation has marked October as a significant milestone – National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. At The Batch Yard, we proudly stand side by side with our community to honor this important month. It’s a time that resonates deeply with all of us, as we amplify our voices in solidarity with those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.

Throughout these 31 days, and all year long, organizations like Susan G. Komen and Breast Cancer Now aim to emphasize education, advocate for early detection, and champion screenings and prevention.

The legacy of Breast Cancer Awareness Month dates back to 1985 when it started as a week-long awareness campaign. Over the years, it has grown into a powerful month-long movement, symbolized by the iconic pink ribbon introduced in 1992.

Donning the emblematic pink ribbon, we honor survivors, cherish the memory of those no longer with us, and promote the progress against breast cancer. Learn more about the Pink Ribbon’s significance and the story of Susan G. Komen for the Cure here
