Fall Is Here! How to Decorate Your Apartment for the New Season

Cozy sweater season is finally upon us, and it’s not just your wardrobe that deserves a makeover. Your apartment should be ready for autumn, too! If you need some seasonal design inspiration, here are a few decor tips for fall.

  1. Toss up some twinkle lights. What could be simpler than stringing up a few strands of light? Twinkle lights instantly create a cozy vibe within your home, transforming a simple space into something almost magical. You’ll love curling up on the couch with the softly glimmering lights hanging overhead.

  2. DIY a dried herb and flower wreath. If you want to adorn your door in a way that doesn’t involve autumn leaves, try this DIY wreath instead. In place of the fall foliage, it showcases dried herbs and colorful flowers to create a more contemporary look.

  3. Stock vases with pumpkins. When it comes to fall decor, you can’t go wrong with the classic pumpkin. But if you want to elevate the simple gourd, find pint-sized pumpkins in a few different shapes and hues and pack them into large glass vases. The result will be a stunning centerpiece for your dining room table or a chic vignette for the living room.

  4. Create a “get cozy” station. ‘Tis the season to snuggle up! Encourage your guests to do so by stacking some soft throw blankets in plain sight, perhaps capping them off with a plump pumpkin or a small chalkboard sign that actually instructs them to “Get cozy!”

Don’t Miss the Canines & Cocktails Event at Short Path Distillery in Everett

Whether you have your own dog or just want your puppy fix, you’re welcome at the Canines & Cocktails event, hosted by Short Path Distillery. The evening of imbibing will squeeze the last few warm hours out of summer on Wednesday, September 18th from 5 to 11 p.m. out on the distillery’s semi-covered patio.

Dogs are always welcome on the patio, but you can expect an extra infusion of four-legged friends in honor of this event. Your canine will have the chance to meet and greet other pups as you chat with their owners out on the patio. While you do, enjoy a cocktail or two from the bar. Short Path Distillery was founded by a group of friends/spirits enthusiasts, and their genuine passion for crafting top-shelf libations shines through in every drink their bar staffers mix.

How to Stay Safe When Exercising Outside This Summer

When the sun is shining and the summer breezes are blowing, you’re probably happy to skip the gym and get outside for your workout. While getting some fresh air is always a great idea, exercising outdoors can also be dangerous on hot days. Here’s how to stay safe when you choose to head outside for a workout.

  1. Make sure you know the signs of heat exhaustion. You might find that you have to set a slightly slower pace during a warm-weather workout, and that’s totally normal (and a safe thing to do). However, if you’re feeling unusually sluggish or lightheaded, it’s probably time to head inside. These could be early indications of heat exhaustion, which can become a dangerous condition if you push it.

  2. Drink water before, during, and after your workout. Even if you don’t feel particularly thirsty, drink one or two glasses of water before you head out for a run. Then drink at least every 15 minutes during the workout, and have a few more glasses afterward. It’s important to stay hydrated because thirst only occurs when you’re already starting to get dehydrated—and that’s not something you want to happen on a particularly warm day.

  3. Wear the right attire. Obviously, you don’t want to wear anything too bulky when the temperatures soar, but keep sun protection in mind, too. Opt for light, breathable clothing that wicks moisture and, preferably, features material that prevents sunburn. You also may want to wear a hat and some moisture-resistant sunscreen for an extra layer of protection.

  4. Avoid peak sunshine. If you’re used to working out on your lunch break, it might be time to take a different approach. This time of year, the coolest temperatures fall in the early morning and the evening, when the sun isn’t at its brightest. You can avoid overheating by simply switching up the time that you work out.
