If you’re new to town and you like a sweet treat, Mike’s Pastry needs to be the first spot on your list of new places to try! Known for making a mean cannoli, Mike’s is a Boston institution with locations in Boston, Cambridge, and lucky for us—Somerville! They started in the North End of Boston in 1946 on Hanover Street, and since then they’ve only grown in popularity and have become a staple for all Bostonians for holidays, afternoon coffee dates, and simply when they want to treat themselves.
If you’re not sure what to try during your first visit, get a box of assorted cookies so you can try all the options like almond macaroons, fig cookies, or wedding cookies. Then, of course, a few different cannoli. If you want something fun for your next party, grab a few of their Mike’s Famous Cannoli Kits with either plain ricotta or chocolate ricotta filling. You pipe your own cream and top with one of the three traditional toppings—pistachio, chocolate chips, and confectioner’s sugar—and voila! They also sell lobster tail kits.
