Just around the corner (under four miles door to door) is a not-your-average movie theater. Kendall Square Cinema is the perfect example of functional art. The theater itself is an architectural gem, the beloved home to independent films, foreign language cinema, and restored classics and documentaries. Even cooler, in addition to the nine screens with DLP digital projection and sound, the cinema offers free podcasts, promotions, and events that include letters from Filmmakers, local premieres, benefit screenings, and film fests.
Located in Cambridge between Central Square and historic Kendall Square, the movie house has been one of Landmark Theater’s most successful venues since it took over operations in 1995. Considering Landmark has 48 theaters in 21 markets, that’s really saying something!
Though a mere movie theater to passers-by, Boston natives consider it one of their cultural epicenters, proudly winning numerous awards over the years. Of its many accolades, Kendall Square Cinema stands out most being chosen Best Cinema in Boston (five years – including 2014), Top 5 Indie Film Cinema in Boston, and Best First-Run Movie Theatre in Boston.
Bye bye Netflix – you can’t possibly offer this experience.
Kendall Square Cinema is located at One Kendall Square at 355 Binney Street and can be reached on the Red Line/MBTA. If driving in, $3 validated 4-hour parking is available in the Kendall Square Parking Garage. Easy peasey.
